BUt atm its good again, I installed the program and then it wouldnt update, so I did the first one manually and now the program updates every day. thank you very much, the setting with the proxy-server worked. Even after the major update that gave a lotta people problems I had no problems with avira updating.

I had proxy server activated in IE (internet options) and in the avtivir update settings. dont know why it was activated, never used a proxy. However, after last patch tuesday (13th of October) by M$ for Windows (which I updated on the 14th), Avira doesn't seem to automatically update anymore. Since I run as a Power User, I have to switch to my Admin account to do this. :-/ Here's a part of my update error log: [UPD] [INFO] Downloading of ' to 'C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Avira\Anti Vir Desktop\TEMP\UPDATE\idx\master.idx'.

These 407 error messages can appear during program installation, while a Avira Operations Gmb H & Co. Avira Antivirus) is running, during Windows startup or shutdown, or even during the installation of the Windows operating system.

Keeping track of when and where your 407 error occurs is a critical piece of information in troubleshooting the problem.

Many Avira users woke up to systems that either would not start up or could only be booted in secure mode.

All this because of a glitch in Avira's Pro Activ behaviour recognition module.

The Pro Activ module supports none of the 64-bit versions of Windows 7 and Vista; the free Avira Free Antivirus edition doesn't offer any behavior recognition by default.

It seems that Avira hasn't managed to tackle the Pro Activ problem in the short term – completely disabling the module is, therefore, a plausible emergency measure.
